Nation-Building Underway at Alberta Legislature

Enthusiasm Palpable at Alberta Independence Rally

people gathered at legislature building in Edmonton for Alberta Independence Rally

Published in Western Standard

On Saturday, I watched one more step in the building of a nation. The organizers and leaders of the Alberta Independence movement deserve to be commended.

Attendance at the rally in Edmonton at the legislature was impressive, and the enthusiasm was palpable. Between 900 and 1200 people attended with great enthusiasm. Over one thousand others watched online. The sea of blue clothing and flags signified strength and determination. Each keynote speaker offered valid, sincere points.

A Peaceful Event, Overall

There were very few protesters present, and all but two of them were calm. They spoke at length with our people, genuinely interested in our point of view. Two nasty women were out of control and screamed expletives until the security team ushered them out.

General Council Jeffrey Rath was his usual outspoken self.

Rath’s main talking points included the judicial system being “under the government thumb” while trampling on our rights and freedoms. He criticized Quebec for refusing to develop its natural resources while greedily accepting huge equalization payments from Alberta. Additionally, he addressed Danielle Smith’s announcement that a referendum would be illegal and therefore unattainable, even with a win on October 19, declaring this patently untrue. He also proposed a new Alberta constitution based on checks and balances, where both the Attorney General and Auditor General would be duly elected and hold the authority to charge politicians who participate in illegal activities.

Yes or No To Data Centers | The Secret Invasion

Vaccine-Injured Still Treated like Lepers

Lawyer Shawn Buckley, whose focus is on protecting our Charter rights, chose the COVID-19/vaccine mandate as his topic. He reiterated the lack of reparation even at this late date. Medical personnel remain unable to admit publicly that both the COVID-19 protocol and the vaccines were harmful. The vaccine-injured are still being treated like lepers rather than being compensated and given prompt and ongoing medical treatment. Vaccine-injured members of our armed forces remain under threat of court-martial if they admit to it. The details are not allowed to be entered on their medical charts.

Alberta's Done Waiting coat of arms

Buckley alluded to the Allison Inquiry led by Dr. Dean Allison, which mentions numerous countries such as Denmark that have halted vaccines being mandatory for children. He concluded his discourse by stating that “it is time to make a choice. People must think of the future of their grandchildren.”

Alberta Independence Movement Currently 300,000+ Members Strong

The final speaker was the man spearheading the movement, Mitch Sylvestre. Dedicated to the cause, he is a man with a mission. Sylvestre stated emphatically that his goal is “for Alberta to return to the way it was when I grew up.” He tirelessly recruits new members and is hopeful that more and more young people will be welcomed into the movement.

He proclaimed proudly that Alberta independence is the longest-running grassroots movement in the history of Alberta, currently boasting over 300,000 members. He urged new members to join the UCP to have a voice within the movement. It will take 1.2 million for an assured win.

In the words of Alberta’s Byfield: “Alberta’s grievances are real, legitimate, and not going away. Instead, with each passing year, they have accumulated. We have protested. Negotiated. Elected governments promising change. Yet the underlying problem persists.”

Additional speakers, such as Leighton Grey, Maycee and Madison Holmes, and Paul J. Loewen, took the opportunity to add to the comprehensive discussion as well. Their love for Alberta shone like a beacon.

Hope Won’t Stop Alberta Independence

Hope Is Not Enough — Danielle Smith Needs Results, NotDanielle Smith Referendum - Larke Newell Knowledge Is Nice Rhetoric

From Alberta Independence to an ‘imaginary pipeline’ to questionable federal deals, Albertans are being asked to trust promises that lack substance.

Published in Western Standard

It appears that our Premier Smith has opted out of straddling the centerline and is now taking a page from Mark Carney’s playbook. Waffling, stalling, and whipping up word salads. At this point, it seems as though she thinks that “giving Albertans hope will tamp down separatist support.”

In a recent speech to business people, she said, and I quote, “33% of our fellow citizens have given up on the country, and I think that is very sad. I think it is because of the way we have been treated over the last 10 years. My job is to give people hope again.”

Imaginary Pipelines

She was, of course, referring to the recent and much-lauded memorandum of understanding regarding an imaginary pipeline. Everyone knows, and knew at the time, that it was not worth the paper it was written on or the photo op handshake.

“A decade of being treated badly by the federal government has led to separation rumblings … that’s why I think we have to make sure that we are doing genuine real things to address those grievances. And to the prime minister’s credit, I think he’s made some good strides in that regard,” said Smith.

Oh, perhaps like the proposed million-barrel-per-day pipeline to British Columbia’s coast? Cenovus Energy CEO Jon McKenzie says that financing cannot be secured for said pipeline due to Canada’s regulatory framework.

“As well, the industrial carbon pricing system makes Canadian oil uncompetitive and hampers the production growth needed,” said McKenzie.

Ottawa’s Failure

Ottawa’s regulatory approvals for the pipeline are directly linked to the development of the Pathways carbon capture and storage, which would capture greenhouse gas emissions from oil sands facilities and transport them via pipeline for storage.

As explained by McKenzie, “the deal fails to address how the industry would ship an extra million barrels of oil a day while also spending capital on the Pathways project, which would cost as much as $30 billion.”

“Ottawa’s failure to prioritize our biggest and most important export has forced investors to go elsewhere. Cenovus places over 1 million barrels a day across three continents, and none of our customers have ever suggested or even asked about the carbon intensity of Canadian crude.”

Gordie Howe Bridge – Another Bad Deal for Canada?

Or perhaps the new Gordie Howe Bridge between Windsor and Detroit is one of his “good strides.” There is apparently now a revenue-sharing agreement between Canada and the US, but not surprisingly the details remain murky. Even though Canada solely financed the $6.4 billion construction, the new agreement will split the net revenues from the bridge to a US-run economic development fund for 15 years. Carney told CTV News that “profits will be shared after the debt servicing costs are taken care of.”

The original 2012 agreement stipulated that 100% of the tolls would go to the Canadian government.  Half of the revenue would go to the US after a 36-year period. Under this new agreement with our fierce-elbows-up Prime Minister, Canada will receive just 50% of the PROFITS.

Six Conservative MPs wrote to Canada-US Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, criticizing Carney’s agreement as a bad deal for Canada because the country covered the entire cost of constructing the bridge.

Premier Smith Just Biding Her Time?

In any case, back to Danielle Smith. She has now made her position abundantly clear in regards to Alberta independence. Which begs the question, “Is attempting to continue to work with her a case of ‘better the devil you know than the one you don’t?’”

That being said, and to be fair, Premier Smith has tried hard to keep a level head and cover all the bases. The truth of the matter is she has the right to her opinion of the situation and has continually made it clear that she prefers a sovereign nation within Canada. However, it appears that she is either gullible and naive enough to believe all his drivel, or is just biding her time, still attempting to play the game in the middle of the fence.

Similarities Between Indigenous Chiefs and Councils and Our Federal Liberals

Are Indigenous Leaders Just More Crooked Politicians?

Kamloops School graves scam - Indigenous chiefs and counsels are just more corrupt politiciansThe Similarities Between Indigenous Chiefs and Councils and Our Federal Liberals

Published in Western Standard

It is becoming ever more apparent that the Canadian Federal Government and the First Nations people have identical power/financial structures and modus operandi. The rich get richer and the poor do without. It is becoming more and more obvious that Canada, most especially B.C., are turning a blind eye to the blatant lies and stealthy encroachment of certain indigenous chiefs and councils who are grasping for riches and power, all under the guise of entitlement for supposed wrongs committed before our time.

Case in point is the Kamloops Residential School debacle. Leading this charge was Roseanne Casimir, chief of the Kamloops Indian Band. This is the woman who, on May 27, 2021, announced the “confirmation of the remains of 215 indigenous children who were buried at this location.”

The government reacted by allocating $12.1 million for recovery of said remains to the local First Nations, or “Coastal First Nations”, which, contrary to mainstream media reports, is actually a well-funded activist group, not a band, headed by Ms. Casimir, among others. Funding is provided by wealthy left wing foundations to serve their own agendas.

The original $12.1 million grew to $320 million. Yet now, years later, not one shovel of dirt has been turned and no remains have been found. The funding that had been allocated to excavation, archival research, and site security was diverted in its entirety to administration, marketing, and travel, as well as publicists, and architects and engineers for other projects. No remains or body parts, no forensic evidence, and no transparency.

Unfortunately this was but one of the follies creating havoc by this organization. These same left wing foundations have donated millions to stop all oil and gas production in Canada. In 2008 they organized protests against the tar sands of northern Alberta as well as the Northern Gateway pipeline project. In 2014 the Coastal First Nations group threatened the project with indigenous resistance. However, contrary to the narrative from the mainstream media, most of the indigenous communities actually supported the pipelines.

And then there were the land claims, again not approved by the band residents but only the chiefs and councils, all for their own gains.

On February 20, 2026 the Canadian government virtually surrendered Vancouver and surrounding areas to the Musqueam Indian Band. This was done secretly, without public input. All in the name of DRIP (Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People) which provides that indigenous people have the right to land they traditionally occupied. (Thankyou once again, Justin Trudeau).

B.C. Premier David Eby has literally sold out the province of B.C. His plans, with specific aboriginal groups, are to put agreements into effect that promise aboriginal title over land and resources, all done covertly. B.C. property rights are in turmoil, threatening long held security of exclusive title. What happens with getting mortgages and property insurance? Sale of homes? This is opening the door to division, conflict, and distrust. Truth and reconciliation? I think not. Back to DRIPA again which claims that all Canadian land, especially that in B.C. is owned by First Nations bands and must be returned to them. Oh but there must remain unlimited government funds at their disposal.

In the words of John Carpay, President of the Justice Centre For Constitutional Freedoms: “This agreement gives 1500 Musqueam band members legal ownership of Greater Vancouver and surrounding areas, and creates a race-based third level of aboriginal government to join the federal and provincial governments in exercising authority over lands where half or more of B.C’s people reside.”corrupt indigenous chiefs and counsels corrupt - Kamloops graves

And the tentacles reach further. While the Alberta Independence Movement was building up steam, and at the point of collecting the necessary signatures needed to request a referendum to separate from Canada a group of First Nations chiefs (paid by the Liberals), have registered a court order to stay this proceeding. Once again, the regular indigenous people were not consulted. This has added volatile fuel to a highly charged political debate.

The graft of the chiefs and councils continues. The Frog Lake First Nations band once had $102 million in a trust fund belonging to band members. By 2021 it had decreased to $3 million. The leaders had opened lines of credit with commercial banks, later paying off those loans with the trust fund. No band authorization or transparency.

Again in 2021 $55.8 million was supposedly used for much needed housing on the reserve. However when forensic investigators visited this reserve they were horrified to observe the same old dilapitated homes and the money was gone. Financial assets in 2019 decreased from $142 million to $19 million with no explanation. The Frog Lake Reserve descended from the most affluent band in the region to a low average one in a mere five years. Does this sound familiar, Mr. Carney?

Chiefs on many reserves are following in the current Liberal footsteps by absconding with the money, leaving their people high and dry. They are handsomely paid to protest, furthering the government agenda, then pocket the money. Currently an Alberta First Nations chief is facing scrutiny after reportedly receiving $55,000 for demonstrating against the oilsands. Coinsidently he is also the leader of the Alberta independence debacle.

Two of the loudest and richest of this ilk are MLA Joan Phillip and her husband Grand Chief Stewart Phillip who lead blockades, protests, and fires, and are heavily into reconciliation grift. In 2014 the Grand Chief was arrested for protesting the expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline and has since been arrested an additional three times. His wife, who coincidentally is the granddaughter of First Nations Chief Dan George the actor, has served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of B.C. since 2023 (NDP). Her political activism included the Palestinian Liberation Organization, the Black Panthers, and also worked to oppose the Trans Mountain pipeline, Ajax mine, Site C Dam and salmon farming. She was an avid supporter of Premier David Eby’s pet projects as well.

An indigenous gentleman, Dean Roach, has kindly given me permission to use several of the words of wisdom he wrote in regards to the “top down” system in First Nations communities:

“I am indigenous and I am done being bullied by my own people for not parroting bullshit. Asking questions and speaking plainly should not put a target on your back. This is about dealing with reality now, instead of letting politicians and bureaucrats weaponize the past forever. Albertans are tired of carrying blame for things that happened long before any of us were around” (referring to Alberta Independence Movement).

“None of us signed treaties. None of us enforced them. Pretending one side owes guilt forever and the other gets grievance forever isn’t justice. It’s a pressure cooker. What really pisses people off isn’t treaty rights. It’s watching billions get spent while communities are still broke, still stuck, still dealing with the same problems year after year. That is not because regular Canadians refuse to help. It’s because Ottawa wastes money and too many Chiefs and Councils never have to answer for it. That is not racism. That is accountability. Hiding behind history while people suffer today helps nobody except the people cashing the cheques.

Indigenous school scam Kamloops BC‘And no they don”t speak for all indigenous people. A lot of us want work, stability, and a future that doesn’t revolve around constant fighting. Land acknowledgements do not fix anything. They have turned into forced rituals instead of education. Responsibility in a free society is individual, not inherited. Forced shame doesn’t heal anything. Progress doesn’t come from living in the past but from fixing what is broken now. What won’t fix anything is threats, guilt trips, or trying to scare people into shutting up. That only builds anger while politicians and bureaucrats sit safe and comfortable in the middle.”

Another brave indigenous person, Bernadette Anderson, reiterates:

“What I have never understood is why my people feel this is their land. This land is not mine. No one promised me land. I never earned it. My people were conquered. No other conquered people have ever been given rights to their land or resources the way we have. At some point our people have to stop playing victim and start creating a life for ourselves. Our leaders are failing us and they are weak. I see our leaders making us into victims and keeping us suppressed while they get rich. The chiefs and councils benefit and do nothing for their people. If we scream Truth and Reconciliation then we have to start offering it ourselves and we have to start building a better quality of life for our people.”

The question appears to be where do we go from here? Somehow the politicians and chiefs and councils must be held accountable, to the fullest extent of the law, else nothing will change.

Data Centers: The Secret Invasion

Data centers in Alberta

Yes or No To Data Centers?

Published in Western Standard

It appears that North America is fiercely divided on the subject of data centers being located on our soil. As is unusual in our two countries, both Canada and the United States are at worst adamant and at best ambivalent regarding the invasion of these behemoths. A necessary evil or additional overreach?

Dead Wildlife and MUCH Higher Utility Bills

Even the infamous Erin Brockovich has thrown her hat in the ring and entered the fray in full battle mode. According to The Guardian, this thirty year veteran of legal battles against big corporations, in the name of progress, and the mindless poisoning of our pristine countries and their inhabitants is armed and ready for battle.

Upon receiving thirty emails from residents of a small US town complaining about data centers, Ms. Brockovich put out a call on her website for like-minded citizens. Immediately she received 3862 responses. One of these reported their water bill increased in one month, after installation of the nearby data center, from $22.00 to over $350.00.

Other responders reported wildlife disappearing and animals laying dead in unlikely places. Bulldozers arriving before any public notice or discussion. NDA,s signed by their own elected officials, effectively preventing them from warning their constituents. One very pertinent question was put forth: ‘If data centers are so great, why are they being built in secret?’

More than 200 environmental groups demand halt to new US data centers

Also reported by The Guardian, two thirds of the US data centers are erected in drought stricken areas. They require up to five million gallons of water per day, equivalent to average usage of fifty thousand people. Let that sink in.

A campaign opposing the construction of a data center in Nashville, Tennessee, in close proximity to the Nashville Zoo, has surged past 400,000 signatures, due in part to the support from country singer Brad Paisley. He commented, “First of all they don’t have the power to build this. They don’t have the water. It doesn’t belong there. It would be an enormous monstrosity, an absolute eyesore, and detract in every way from the zoo and surrounding area.” This zoo, which received 1.4 million visitors last year and is home to 3700 animals, was described by Paisley as “one of the top zoos in the world.” The zoo stated emphatically that there is a definite lack of publicly available studies assessing potential harm.

The Dangers of Living Near These Centers

Inside data centerAs Mark Carney pushes AI and digital sovereignty vehemently to further his own devious agenda, there are both pros and cons to be considered, in spite of his tunnel vision. From soaring energy bills to huge environmental impacts, there are serious downsides to being neighbors to one of these projects. Electricity grid strain, excessive water consumption, constant noise both day and night, and air pollution, to name a few.

Often AI centers are erected on rural sites due to lower power grid demand. This entails massive clear cutting and site preparation, permanently altering forested and undeveloped land by the hundreds of acres.

The promised economic benefits are often gravely overstated. In short, data centers rarely improve local economies, as often stated. Property values are in upheaval, insurance premiums rise, and often homeowner displacement, whether singly or entire residential areas, are unavoidable.

Chinese Regime Infiltrating Canada

The federal government issued this statement: “Canada will double the electricity grid, largely with clean power, hydro, nuclear and renewables, and leverage its cold climate to give itself a built-in cost advantage that competitors are spending billions to replicate artificially while minimizing carbon footprint and water usage. (Sound like more Carney word salad?)

“New projects must meet strong environmental standards, use energy and water responsibly, deliver tangible benefits to local communities, and ensure taxpayers are not left bearing unreasonable costs for private development.” Ha. That would be after Carney gets his cut, of course.

Why Is Alberta a Choice Location?

There has been a definite change regarding these structures in Canada. The ones currently being built have ten times the capacity of the previous ones. There are five hyperscale data centers at this time – two in B.C. and the other three in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. Currently an additional ninety-six are either under construction or planned for the near future.Calgary Data Centres Larke Newell, author, Knowledge Is Nice, Alberta Canada

Alberta is the preferred location with such advantages as fiber optic network, skilled workforce, and the provincial government making it clear that they are open for business. Once again the lure of dollars over any other considerations. As well their deregulated electric system and cheap natural gas are attracting the center builders.

To quote Byron Hackett, Managing Editor of the Red Deer Advocate, “Here we are on the heels of a $13 billion investment in our province from Meta. The numbers sound great to most Albertans:

  • project will create more than 3000 construction jobs and support 300 operational jobs
  • generate approximately $250 million annually in benefits for Albertans.
  • Meta is also investing approximately $60 million in local infrastructure improvements

But at what cost? There is no question that Meta plunked its data center in Sturgeon County, north of Edmonton, because the Alberta government relaxed regulations and the regulatory environment to pave the way for it.

10 Times the Power Required than a Google Inquiry

The one gigawatt center will draw as much power as the entire city of Edmonton. Research has shown that on average, a ChatGPT query needs nearly ten times as much electricity to process as a Google search.”

To be fair, data center developers are attempting to find more efficient use of water by using a closed-loop system similar to a car radiator. This, in my opinion, is a drop in the bucket, no pun intended. Some are investing in off grid power generation. I suppose you could call that a step in the right direction.

I am not opposed to progress in any way, but I am opposed to the further destruction of our continent and the further stripping away of our people’s financial security and quality of life.

Coastal First Nations: Not A Representative Authority

Coastal First Nations: A Well-Funded Activist Network…

Not A Representative Authority

Published in Druthers.ca

Horror, revulsion, and shame exploded throughout Canada in the aftermath of the alleged gruesome discovery of 215 buried indigenous children at the former Kamloops Residential School. The opinions of other countries followed suit.

As a result, vengeance was swift, although neither legal nor logical, in the form of vandalism and arson towards churches throughout Canada.

A Complete Lack of Evidence

The government initially allocated $7.9 million and later increased it to $12.1 million to the local First Nations for the recovery of the remains. Eventually, that amount grew to $320 million nationwide. Trudeau Coastal First Nations

Now, five years later, no confirmed remains or forensic evidence have been forthcoming. In fact, shockingly, not one shovel of dirt has been turned. Initial funding allocated for excavation, archival research, and site security was diverted: $405,000 for administration, $37,500 for marketing, $100,000 for the employment of two trauma counsellors for six months, and $54,000 for travel. In blatant disregard for the task at hand, $532,000 was used for publicists, architects, and engineers for long-term projects, including a museum, a Healing Centre, and a nursing home for indigenous elders. No remains or body parts, no forensic evidence, no transparency whatsoever.

Fueled by public outrage, the Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations attempted to obtain information on the excavation project but was rebuffed. Finally, the information was obtained from the Information Commissioner.

Coastal First Nations Not a Band or Bands but a Well-Funded Activist Group

At the core of this issue is a fundamental misrepresentation. Contrary to mainstream media reports and insinuations, Coastal First Nations is not what it claims to be. It is a well-funded activist group, not a band or bands. Its original name is the Great Bear Initiative Society, and it is based in Vancouver at the corner of Granville and West Hastings. It got its seed money from wealthy left-wing, anti-oil American foundations such as the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation and the Tides Foundation.

Are Canadian Indigenous Leaders Just More Crooked Politicians?

At the center of this episode is Roseanne Casimir, chief of the Kamloops Indian Band. She has done more harm to both the band and Canada’s reputation than anyone and has destroyed any foreseeable chance of healing for indigenous Canadians. This is the woman who, on May 27, 2021, announced the horrifying scenario of “confirmed” remains of children aged three years and older. Since that fateful day, she has manipulated the government into paying millions of dollars and fraudulently misused those funds. The only media she will invite to her publicity events are mainstream government lapdogs, such as the CBC, thus perpetuating her myth.

Roseanne Casimir Must Be Held Accountable

Never has Casimir mentioned that the late Liberal cabinet minister and senator Leonard Marchand Sr. was once a student at the very school she is maligning, and that he had nothing but praise for his time there.

Rockefeller Brothers Foundation funds Coastal First NationsThis conduct does not exist in isolation. It reflects the broader activist infrastructure, funding networks, and political strategies employed by the Coastal First Nations organization itself.

Not only should this woman resign, but she must be held accountable for perpetuating this nightmare. As well, she and her band of thieves must be made to repay the millions of dollars they received from taxpayers for excavating that has yet to be carried out.

The same activist network responsible for shaping the Kamloops narrative has also played a central role in obstructing Canada’s energy development.

Natural Health Care -One More Example of Government Overreach

A Long History of Contemptible Behaviors

Unfortunately, this was not the only damage done by this organization. Next on the list is the pipeline debacle. These same left-wing foundations have donated millions to stop all oil and gas production in Canada. For many years, they have sown their seeds and wreaked havoc:

In 2008, they organized a smear against Canada’s tar sands in northern Alberta, as well as demonstrating against the Northern Gateway pipeline project.
In 2014, the executive director of Coastal First Nations threatened the project with indigenous resistance. What many did not realize is that most of the indigenous communities along the proposed route supported the pipeline. This subterfuge is ongoing. Curiously, both this activist group and the B.C. government believe that they have veto power over the building of a pipeline. However, in actuality, the law states that this is not true.

They have no say whatsoever in the matter.

Chinese Regime Infiltrating Canada

Does Canada Really Belong to Them?

Once again, the mainstream media is continuing to push the narrative that all First Nations people are against any resource development projects, but this is patently untrue. Not a word is mentioned about this, and the indigenous people who try to speak up are simply ignored.

The passage of DRIPA, or the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, introduced what is effectively a claim that all Canadian land—especially that in BC—is owned by First Nations bands and must be returned to them. Consequently, no one can develop or do anything on said lands without their permission, while government funding is treated as unlimited and ongoing. This has created an untenable situation, prompting virtue-signaling ideologues and instigators such as BC Premier David Eby to call for a repeal, but the chiefs and council—once again aided by the Coastal First Nations group—respond with fierce and uncompromising threats.

In Conclusion:

This group of well-paid activists has inflicted horrific pain on the indigenous families involved in the residential school fiasco by perpetuating a terrible scam. The pipeline holdup and the land grab are more of the same, with dire results for the country.
